Before I was even working for Crossroads to Freedom I noticed how Hyde Park was in constant disarray. I believed that the majority of the reason for Hyde Park looking the way it does was because of the people there. After researching the area though, I realized that a large amount on the blame is on the shoulders of the Memphis Government. This unnoticed shining gem of Memphis is being taken into a further state of disrepair, because of apathy both within the community and in the government. There are many ways that Hyde Park can easily be made nicer, but no one really thinks of Hyde Park as a “prime” neighborhood of Memphis. Though Hyde Park has a vast and rich history which every Memphian could learn from, the looks of the area shroud that history. With some help from neighborhood people and politicians, Hyde Park could return to its former glory.
